What HazAssist asks you for

HazAssist asks for a location you type in, plus scenario details you choose to provide for the plan, PACE communications plan, and supply kit builders. It never asks for your name, email, phone number, or password. When you open HazAssist, it creates an anonymous identifier automatically so the service can block abuse. That identifier is not linked to your name or identity.

What happens to it

Your inputs are sent to the services listed below to generate your plan. HazAssist does not save your plans or assessments on its servers, and Disaster Operations Group does not keep a copy of them. Your browser keeps your most recent assessment and plans on your own device, so you can reopen them after a refresh or without a connection. You can delete them from the start page at any time, and searching a new location replaces them.

What is kept

A few things are kept to protect and improve the service:

  • A short-lived counter tied to your network (IP) address, used to stop abuse. It is deleted automatically within 24 hours.
  • If you choose to submit feedback: your rating, your message, and the location you were viewing. Feedback is not linked to your identifier or network address.
  • Server logs that record your anonymous identifier, network (IP) address, and the location, hazard, and PACE scenario text you entered, for security and troubleshooting. Logs are kept for 30 days.

Analytics

HazAssist uses Google Analytics, through Firebase, to count page views and actions such as generating a plan or downloading a supply kit, and to see basic device, browser, and approximate region information. The page address sent to Google Analytics can include the location you searched. You can block analytics cookies in your browser.

The model that generates your plan

Generation runs on Google's Gemini model through its paid API tier. Under Google's paid-tier terms, your prompts and the responses are not used to train or improve Google's products.

Who processes your information

Google services: Gemini (plan generation), Google Maps and Geocoding (location), Firebase (hosting, anonymous sign-in, abuse protection, and feedback storage), reCAPTCHA (bot protection), and Google Analytics (usage counts).

Public hazard data sources receive the place or coordinates of your search so HazAssist can show official risk information: FEMA's National Risk Index (hosted on Esri ArcGIS), the National Weather Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, and ThinkHazard (GFDRR / World Bank). Our server sends these requests, so these sources do not receive your network address or identifier.

Disaster Operations Group does not sell personal data.

Deletion and questions

To ask about information HazAssist holds, or to request deletion of feedback you submitted, contact info@disasteroperationsgroup.com. Feedback isn't linked to you, so tell us roughly when you sent it and what it said.

What this means in practice

Do not type information into HazAssist that you would not put in an unencrypted email. A location and a scenario are enough to produce a useful plan. Names of residents, medical details, and other personal information are never needed and should never be entered.

Changes to this note

If HazAssist's handling of information changes, this page changes with it, and the effective date above will be updated.
